Walkin' with George, I

We walked a few blocks through Philadelphia with reader @GeorgeWard on Tuesday night. Things started out friendly and rule-abidingly enough, but rest assured, deteriorated quickly.

Stay tuned.

Awesome like easy-to-assemble furniture and delicious meatballs

What is? Getting our first submission from SWEDEN!

The lovely Sofie Karlsborn dropped into our inbox with this delightful montage for your enjoyment. Terrific!

While you're here, don't forget to vote in the caption contest for your chance to win an adorable (or manly, whichever) upcycled umbrella HOOD!

But I brought you a flower

And yet a third perspective, this from photog, Jen!

Pretty please don't reveal that you three are roommates.

It's like rain, on your wedding day

Ironic: That's not
Actually it. More like:
Have brella, clear sky.

Re-shoot

And for the 2nd time in BOS history, two umbrellarazzi sent in pictures (this time 3 days apart) of the same subject.

We love you eagle-eyes - thanks for shooting this one Whitney!

Minimalism

Remember Fiona? Well she recently sent us an email saying she'd just returned from a trip to Tokyo, and while she was there... yup, you got it, she thought of US! We're verklempt over here. Tokyo! Vacation!

Where first she found this:

And then this:

She goes on to explain that any left-behind umbrellas in lobbys or metro stations are quickly collected by the homeless, and she was lucky enough to see why and where they go. What a grand re-use, and wonderful perspective from a new locale.

Thanks Fiona!

Grating on the last nerve

Look closely and see a set of three broken umbrellas, these sent in by Alanna from Philadelphia. Note to self, avoid Broad and Walnut during rain season!

Our new friend Alanna has earned the coveted honor of sending us our very first threesome, oh but it gets better. She spotted two different threesomes in one day. Stay tuned!

Thanks Alanna!

Epilogue

Many shops and restaurants in Philadelphia participate in this quaint umbrella-sharing program called Dutch Umbrella
( www.dutchumbrella.com), and I have been eagerly awaiting the capture of this White Bengal Tiger of umbrellas.

And what a treat to discover the storytelling angle accompanying our little volunteer workhorse! I eagerly went to the website to see what exotic lands this umbrella visited before meeting its untimely demise at 17th and Arch Streets, only to find "this umbrella has no entries". And since it seems that the journal function doesn't support Macs, the story begins and ends right here.
